Unless your printer has a built-in duplexer, it probably requires manual intervention to print on both sides of paper or card stock such as index cards. Once your printer prints the first side of each card, it stops while you move the cards from the output tray to the input tray. Printing on both sides of an index card saves money on paper, cuts storage requirements in half, reduces postage and is more environmentally friendly than printing on a single side of each card.
Aug 8, 2018 - One has five flashcards per page (business card size) and one has one flashcard per page. See the bottom of this answer for those templates.
1.
Launch Microsoft Word. Choose 'Page Layout' from the menu, select 'Size' and choose 'Index Card - 3x5in,' 'Index Card - 4x6in' or 'Index Card - 5x8in.' Select 'Orientation' and choose 'Landscape' to turn the card so the long edge is facing up.
2.
Select 'Breaks' and choose 'Page' to add blank index cards to your document. Type the information you want to appear on each card. Note that every odd-numbered page begins a new index card, for example, pages 1 and 2 will print on a single card, and pages 3 and 4 will print on a different card.
3.
Choose 'File' from the menu and then 'Save As.' Navigate to a folder where you want to store the document, type a name for the document and choose 'Save.'
4.
Load the index card stock in the printer. Choose 'File' from the menu and then 'Print.'
5.
Choose 'Manually Print on Both Sides' instead of 'Print One Sided' in the list of settings, then click the 'Print' button.
6.
Watch the computer screen for a notification to rotate the paper. Wait for the printer to stop printing and then follow the instructions on the screen for your particular printer to remove the printed index cards from the output tray and insert them into the input tray to print on the other side.
7.
Click 'Continue' after you've rotated the paper to print on the other side of the cards.
Tips
- Before you print all index cards, print a test card to make sure your printer doesn't have difficulty feeding the index card stock and that the ink doesn't smudge as the card passes through the printer's rollers.
- If you don't have the option to print on both sides, your printer doesn't support double-sided printing.
